Its actually got a really nice sound for the price. Very clear quality. The adhesive is good except I keep changing it between my classical and steel string acoustics and it still sticks pretty good but its getting less and less sticky. But overall I'm very happy with the product. Great price great quality
A nice simple pickup. Peel the backing and place it on the surface of the guitar, wherever it's convenient. The gold plated connectors are a reliable connection. There is even an adapter for mono (standard guitar) to a stereo 3.5mm input.
You may wish to EQ your amp or use with a preamp for better balance of sound and tone shaping.
Good value for the money and let's you get up and running without a huge investment.
I have a couple of acoustic guitars with built-in pickups, including an Ibanez classical, but my vintage 1970s Ibanez dreadnought has no electric capability. I bought this item after using and reviewing a number of other Donner products. The transducer is surprisingly small, and it comes with a nice long cord and an adapter in case you need to go from a standard guitar plug to the smaller form (see attached picture for what comes in the box). The pickup is very sensitive (moving it around can generate some static) but it really works. The amplification for the guitar is strong and clean, and it preserves a lot of the distinctive acoustic sound. For the price, you can hardly beat the functionality of this little device.
Works amazingly!! Definitely for the new guitarist trying to amplify the sound..
I needed a pick-up for my tenor resonator ukulele for a PorchFest performance with my ukulele band. This filled the bill perfectly. I plugged it into my amp, moved it around on the cover plate until I found the sweet spot, attached it and was good to go. It was easy to remove and left no marks on the chrome plating. It sounded great. The guys in the band were shocked at the low price.
Very easy to use and sounds great.
Could not have asked for anything better

It works wonderful you got a ukulele or guitar don’t have a pick up this is the one to get his jeep and it works well

You won't get any sound effects or equalizer out of this. However, the sound is still warm and clear. The volume control is straight forward. Paired with a good amplifier it gets pretty loud. The device installation is simple and easy. The device itself is a little bugger than a quarter. It fits perfectly into the guitar case for carrying. Cable comes included so you can connect to any 3/4" input/ guitar amplifier. Love that I don't need to worry about replacing a battery on it! It definitely gave two old broken guitars I was planning to get rid of--a new life.
The advantage for me over using a mic is that this work well with foot pedal effects. Also a lot of venues don't have enough mics to go around. It is a piezo so mid range will need some help from your amp. I did not hear any noise or buzz with the strings muted which also helped to get some stars. They give you all the adapters you need. The chord is plenty to get me to my pedal board.
Price is what got the last star here. It is really inexpensive. The adhesive will re-stick if you remove the pickup. I initially used some painters tape to move the pick up around to find the sweet spot on the instrument but you probably do not need to that. There is also an extra price of adhesive included. This is a surface mount pick up so it will also pick up handling of the instrument. Something to be aware of but a good thing if you are a percussive player. A volume pedal also helps.
This is a very good transducer style pickup, and a total steal at this price.
I tried this on both a steel string and a nylon string (my main reason of interest in this type of pickup) and I was pleased with it on both. No pickup is going to reproduce the sound of an acoustic instrument, but this hooked up to my amp sounded very pleasant. It's a transducer though, so it does pick up everything from your playing, to your pants rubbing on the body of the guitar. The onboard volume control is a nice touch not seen on a lot of other transducer types. Being able to dial in the the input volume into the amp was very useful. The dial is in a nice spot and easily found with you finger when trying to operate it blindly.
The case is plastic and feels solid enough, but obviously it's not made to be abused. Adhesion on this thing is strong. Went on easy and had no trouble staying put on either guitar. You have to give it a little twist to get it off, and there was a very small amount of residue left on the guitar after, but that should be expected with any adhesive. It came right up with guitar polish. The adhesive disc on the back looks like it can be used and reused many times. No idea how many, but they include an extra for when it wears out, i guess, and a separate velcro strip. I'm assuming the velcro is for someone doing a lot of switching from instrument to instrument.
The included cable is alright. It's long enough for around the house/studio, and it comes with a good 1/4 to 1/8 inch adapter. I didn't notice any noise from the cable. It's good and useable, but I would want something more robust if I was in a live situation. But that's a personal preference, so I will not dock any points on that.
Give it a shot. It's good, small, easy to use, and cheap. It's a useful little tool to have at your disposal.
I had been looking for an easy way to be able to run my acoustic guitar into my interface to be able to record some music. There are tons of options out there, but none of them as affordable as the Donner Guitar Pickup Transducer TP-1. I definitely recommend for anyone who owns an acoustic guitar or other acoustic stringed instrument that is not already wired up with a pickup. It is easy to use and sounds great!
Ideal for mandolin
This is a really easy way to amplify your acoustic guitar, you just stick the mic on using the patches included and plug in! The mic stayed on the guitar without any problems and doesn’t seem likely to fall off especially as it’s very light. I also managed to remove the mic with little effort and it left no marks/damage on the guitar.
