I think this kit is a great value for the money. I compared many drum kits in the price range and I'm really glad I chose this one. My opinion is NOT a DRUMMERS OPINION so take that in to consideration. I'm a musician by trade but my drumming skills are just beginning to develop with this kit.
The kit seems sturdy and it is a nice size for 6 feet tall guy like me. Some other kits seemed smaller when I did the research before buying. I was also suprised how responsive the pads are.
Also the delivery was smooth, easy and quicker than I expected. I live in Finland so I was a bit worried will it arrive okay and is it hard to get it here. Everything went really well.
I'm really pleased overall with my purchase. :) I've had lot of fun with it.
Perfect for beginners.Easy to hook up and move to any room. Also easy to hook up to speaker. Lots of wires though
I'm not a much of a drummer myself; I play guitar and sing in two different bands. But both bands rehearse at my house, and both have pro-quality drummers. I had these drummers put this kit through its paces, and both have it a "thumbs up."
Unlike many electronic kits in this price range, Donner offers MESH heads on its drums; a huge improvement over the decidedly artificial-feeling hard rubber heads. This makes a huge difference to the drummer, for whom "feel" is everything.
I also noticed that the pads appear to offer four levels of velocity sensitivity, further enhancing the "real feel" of the kit. Hit harder, and you get a louder, sharper tone. Very nice.
Speaking of tones, there are 15 customizable kits on offer here; including a very natural-sounding jazz kit as well as several decidedly electronic kits. There should be something to satisfy any drummer in any style.
Naturally, the quality of the amplification has a huge impact on the sounds, as the tone improved dramatically when I switched from my 15w Donner acoustic amplifier to a large Carvin powered speaker with 100 watts of power and an internal crossover for the horn.
There are a few limitations as well, such as the lack of midi out and no individual inputs for each pad, which negates the use of processing. This kit is best used for personal practice or band rehearsals in a stationary place, rather than being moved about and/or "gigged."
Donner includes all the necessary tools to assemble the kit, as well as a generous supply of Velcro straps to secure the cables in a safe and attractive way. They also include an assortment of extra fasteners and hardware of the type that's easily misplaced. Very cool.
All in all, this is a very nice bit of kit, which should work well if used as intended and not pushed beyond it's obvious limitations. I'm very happy to have it in my rehearsal space.
Really well packed and the quality is insanely good for the price! It comes with everything needed for a beginner and great for practice. I also bought a Donner keyboard amp that is equally good and powerful. I’m editing a video with a complete review that will be available on YouTube soon.
I was in doubt about this set and the equivalent from Alesis (nitro mesh) and after testing both I would recommend Donner. (Dual sound in the snare, crash and ride. And also mesh bass pad! And yes, there is an extra output in the brain for an extra crash if needed.
I had been wanting one of these for a while and someone goaded me into giving this one a shot. It arrived in a very nice, well protected package. They even included a screw driver and a drum key which is all you need to put it together. The instructions were fairly decent and the diagrams were outstanding. It took me a little over an hour to put it together. Bear in mind that I'm a left handed dyslexic with Adhd. It would probably go a lot faster, but I see everything backwards and I had to set it up for a lefty. Whew. The whole time I kept saying to myself how nice and sturdy the construction was on the pedals and everything. Most of the time in this price range you get a very expensive toy. This was more like the $1000 plus stuff I have played. It took me 3 tries to route all the wires to suit me. Once I got it dialed in for me, and everything Tightened down good, I gave it a test drive. All of the drums have a nice realistic feel to them. They are mesh head and tunable, so I can't imagine anyone not being able to get the correct feel for themselves. Right out of the box they are set up pretty good. There are 15 preset drumsets and 15 different sounds for each drum, cymbal etc. The following are usually only included with much more expensive kits: dual zone snare, dual zones on all crashes and the ride cymbals, and the amazing ability to be able to choke the cymbals. Yea. I played around with it for hours. You can create and save your own custom sets, play along to a ton of backing tracks, or just use the metronome to work on your chops. I have included pictures and a video running quickly through all the preset kits. Keep in mind you have 6 levels of sensitivity to dial in and this is run through a cheap $20 amp. I am really liking this thing. If anything changes I will gladly update. Rock on \mm/
We got this for Birthday for my boys and they love it! Great for moms too because kids can plug their headphones into it to give our ears a break! We had an amp to plug it into. You have to have one of those for the sound to work. It has all different sounds as well, not just the basic drum sounds! We bought the suggested stool and my boys haven’t really liked that. I’m sure there are better ones out there! It has become a source of entertainment for my boys teenage friends too when they come hangout in our music room!
Easy to use. Great product. Does not work with Rock Band 4.
Got this for my daughter so she would be able to do virtual drum lessons. It has been amazing! She plays the drums all day long and she loves them!
Easy to set up. Cables are color coated. Heads have great action. It folds up for easy storage. Amp compatible. Head phones and stool come with it. Virtually silent with the head phones. Double kick comparable. You can tweak the sound a little if you connect to software. Sound mod needs work.
This is a great starter set for a beginners. We also use it to teach our daughter rhythm and she really enjoys it.
Excellent drum kits , good packaging and fast delivery. It’s worth the price.
Works perfectly couldn't ask for more
I bought this Kit as a beginner and for the price it’s pretty good. I did upgrade the kick pedal which was recommended by many. My complaints come in at setting up the custom kit which I wish was written a bit clearer. You have to save each setting individually instead of having a single “SAVE KIT”. It’s a little nitpick but as a kit to start drumming it it’s truly a steal.
I'd been wanting to get into playing the drums for a while and decided to look at electronic kits due to the lack of space in my house. After looking at some different options online I decided on this Donner kit.
Delivery was fast (next day) and the box was solid. The drums, frame, and accessories inside are all packaged in individual boxes and are well wrapped in foam and other packaging. It came with all the tools required for assembly - just a small screwdriver, a drum key, and an allen / hex key. 99% of the assembly was done with just the drum key only.
I found the assembly easy even as someone who has never built a drum kit before at all. The instructions are super in depth which makes the whole process simple when combined with the individually labelled boxes. It took me about an hour to fully assemble it as a complete beginner. The frame is really sturdy and can be easily adjusted in the event of any wobble/unevenness etc. It also came with a pack of velcro ties which was useful for tidying up the cables (there are quite a few).
The drum module is great and has multiple different features - you can change between entire drum kits, change the individual sounds to mix and match and make your own drum kit, it has a metronome, and it also has some built in songs that you can play along to. You can't upload your own sounds/kits via USB or SD card but this isn't a feature that is really seen at this price point. However, the module does support MIDI out via USB and I found it really easy to link this up with my DAW and use different VSTs so I could use my own custom drum sounds.
The drums themselves are great quality and the mesh heads have a great bounce to them which feels excellent. Everything feels super solid - it definitely won't be breaking or getting damaged any time soon. They respond excellently to different hits and the range in dynamics is great - even the slightest hits are registered. The dual zones on some of the drums are a great feature, and the cymbals even support grabbing them with your hand to mute them. The hi hat and kick pedals are of solid quality and the kick pedal can be adjusted to your liking. The only issue I had with it was that it slid slightly on my laminate floor, however it would be fine on carpet or a rug etc. I fixed it by just adding a little rubber pad onto the bottom.
There are a solid range of sounds available that sound great for the range of music I've been playing - mostly indie/rock/etc - and I am sure it would be great for a variety of other different styles too. Its super easy to change between them on the fly using the module - something that is quite handy is that the buttons are all big enough that you can just press them with the tip of a drumstick if you don't feel like putting them down!
The included throne seems solid and has a good range of height adjustment - I'm 6ft tall and could easily find a height that worked well for me. The sticks seem good to me and should be suitable for most players. The only downside in my opinion is the headphones which aren't the best quality and feel a bit fragile - however the sound quality isn't bad and sounds good enough for some quiet practicing. You can use basically any headphones using the 3.5mm jack on the module so this isn't really a problem in my opinion. The kit also fits pretty easily into a small corner in my house and I can still play it comfortably in the space.
Overall I've been really enjoying this kit so far and have been progressing pretty quickly through the first few lessons on my beginner drums course - the course is geared towards acoustic kits but everything has carried over perfectly to the electronic kit. I'm really impressed with the overall build quality and the ease of assembly, as well as the features of the module and especially the MIDI out that lets you use it for a variety of different applications. The included accessories are up to par and are good value at the price point. I'd definitely recommend this kit to anyone looking to start playing the drums or anyone who is looking for a great value electronic kit for some neighbour-friendly practicing.
I was pleasantly surprised with the electric drum kit.
I have bought a few guitar pedals by Donner and really liked them so I decided to take a chance with the drum kit.
It came in a relatively compact box and was packages very well. The build quality to very high and much better than the electric drum kits I used to play years ago. It has a good range of sounds to play around with and you can get good dynamic sounds from each drum depending how / where you hit it.
I think a few key features have been missed out in other reviews and the listing for the kit. The kit has rim sensors on each drum so you can get sounds from that also, but the best thing is that it has a MIDI output that allows you to connect the kit to a computer where you can use programs like garage band to get more drum sounds and record songs.
Overall I am very happy with this kit for the price point and would recommend it.
Really easy to set up and get going with. Sounds great and pretty realistic.
Very happy with this purchase
I bought this kit for both my daughter who just started percussion in band and wants to learn to play the drumset and for myself. I found this fairly simple to build taking me less than an hour. The directions were simple and easy to understand. After I finished putting it together I was quickly able to plug in some headphones and start playing! The control unit did take a little time to figure out how to switch between drum kits, songs, metronome, etc...but with a little practice it became pretty easy. I would definitely recommend this to parents who have a kid who is interested in taking up the drums. It has a small footprint, it’s light so it can be moved easily, and can be easily folded up and stored. Since it is electronic and can be played while wearing headphones it makes very little noise so it can be practiced anytime! The different sounds will keep a kid interested. This kit can also be connected to a computer or iPad via USB so if you or your child are technologically savvy, connecting the kit to your iPad or computer allows you even more sound options. Plus, it is cheaper than a traditional acoustic set making it a smaller investment.
Considering that for the price I don’t think you can really get a better acoustic or electric kit, perhaps even used it’s really hard to rate this anything other than a 5 star. Donner has built a great kit here and priced it even better.
My biggest gripes are all software issues that could be fixed with a software update; something I’d love to see. 1) The reverbs could be better; 2) it’d be nice to have more kits, the current selection feels too lacking in variety; 3) a 3 or 4 band EQ instead of the 2 band; and 4) the menus need to stay up longer.
The sound is pretty great. There’s still the issues with timber and response that is inherent to all electric drums kits. That being when you play beyond a certain speed or in odd rhythms it doesn’t sound the same as it would on an acoustic kit. The kits themselves don’t bring a lot of variety, I personally find that kit 1 with reverb 0 is the best sound. That makes for a dual experience of both it sounding pretty great out of the box (only needing a slight low EQ bump and high EQ dip) and it not feeling too satisfying to work through the massive amount of possible drum sets you can configure.
I do absolutely love that you can change every drum and every sensitivity. To the degree where you can have a different cymbal edge and cymbal bell. Even the snare rim can be changed. If the menus could be set to stay up longer that would also make setting up your own kits much more rewarding.
Beyond that if you’re like me then you likely just set up your music gear and leave it that way forever. Sure I might tweak a thing here or there but generally once I get the sound I like I’m happy. These drums are an absolute joy to play. They’re the quietest drums I’ve come across (mostly because of the mesh pads and the frame absorbing and distributing the energy nicer than my old kit) and while they don’t respond or play like an acoustic kit it’s a great compromise. I really like springy kits that let me get an easy to control bounce-back on the sticks. Not only is that here but because these are so adjustable that it’s really easy to get them set up exactly the way you want.
I really dig these. The materials are all high quality, they’ve got the ability to run to an amp/DI, PC, and headphones/stereo all at the same time, they’re really compact and the perfect size for the space I have (seriously they juuuust fit without being crammed). I can’t say there’s anything missing that I wanted in an electric drum kit. The head is even completely compatible with any drum that uses a ¼” input, as my Roland cymbal makes evident.
Building them was really easy too. The instructions were shockingly clear and the whole process probably took about 1.5 hours (I took breaks and was dealing with cameras). You can find my video on YouTube where I assemble them on camera. Just search Studio Brock or Donner DED-200. Even with keeping cameras in mind, building it late at night, and having to get back on track a few times because of breaks this was a breeze.
I’m hard pressed to think of a usage scenario where you’d be looking to spend this kind of money on a kit and find something better. It’s hard to get a set of cymbals that sound as good as the digital ones here for the price of this kit, let alone add in a whole drum kit. And to get something with mesh from a brand like Yamaha will set you back a whole lot more than this. I can’t tell you if spending that extra will be worth it for you, though I clearly didn’t see the value in it. Donners got my full recommendation here. These are great period and incredible for the money!
it is an excellent beginner’s drum kit for anyone who is not in a situation where they can use an acoustic drum kit. The kit doesn’t require anything extra other than a stool to sit on and a pair of earphones.
