Very happy with this little headphone amp - works well with guitar as well as bass

After a bit of tweaking the DRIVE, TONE, and VOLUME controls, I managed to get good quality sound through decent headphones. Works great for practicing solo. Not recommended for live performance. Btw the on board EFX is not really useful. A chorus, flange, fuzz, bass boost, or even a soft knee compression circuit in place of that cheesy EFX thing would've been great.

At this price it was worth trying, because it really is so cheap. My kid plays bass just as a hobby, and I kind of find the iffy-design the right vibe for basement solo bass practice. If you've got kids who play electric guitar or bass and they don't already have one of these, show a little love with one of these for the bass (and maybe one for guitar). A lot of value in a tiny package at a microscopic price. I got another (different model) for my own guitar.

Bass comes through with good volume and an SVT drive, you have to be equipped with good pickups and headphones.
Alan Trotman
Bought to play my bass without disturbing anyone and works great. All fully charged once opening and no problems at all.

Can't beat this thing for price and portability. I use it to quietly practice without bothering my wife. Sound quality isnt bad, not great, but good considering it's £25. I use my skullcandy wired buds with it. Overall I think it's great; doesn't feel cheaply made either. The effects button is kind of neat but an unnecessary feature. Overall 8/10

Es bueno para practicar en privado

For what it is, this is a great little device. Of course, you won’t get the low thunder rumble off the B string, but you can hear it without driving your household and neighbors crazy. This plug in has allowed me more freedom to practice my bass playing, without having to lug around a heavy bass amp.
Paul Thompson
Great sound and convenience for the price. Much better than I expected. Decent low end, even with cheap headphones. The jack would not fit into my bass due to the style of guitar and style of amp. This was easily remedied by using a very short patch cord. The controls are tiny and not easy to use on the fly. I expected as much from such a small unit. Controls are solid and function just fine. I just set it and forget it. The built in wah effect is pretty cool but not something I'd use personally. Using the effect seems to lower the overall output volume a bit. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase.

Guys, this little thing is powerful and at first I was a little apprehensive to buythis, but I just bought it and everything about it is great. This is a must have for bass players all over. Super cool how you can play to music too through this

Had a couple of battery operated pocket rocket brand, enjoying usb rechargeable aspect

Highly recommend this for any practice!! I had to use the provided cord to use my headphones.. the one I had gave a muffled sound.. but I absolutely love this and glad I purchased it! Great price, great sound... you need this!! 5 stars
Tanya McGibbon
I can’t believe the tone I get from this thing!
Florence Elliott
I got it to practice on bass, and it works fine with earbuds. Larger headphones aren't so good, it's a low power unit that cant drive them very well. I'm satisfied with what it does.
Harrison Niland
I have only charged this thing once in months. There's a kind of underlying fuzziness in the audio but for practice I don't think that matters. I use it on my bass and I love it. Being able to practice without being annoying is great.
Tom Bennett
I love mines just wish it had a tad more volume for my bass
Ryan Mcgonigle
I use it to practice my bass .
Allan Cooke
If you need to practice on the road and don't want to take a full-size amp with you, this is a good substitute. Despite some reviews saying it isn't loud enough, the one I have is, even with an aux input playing alongside.
Anne Thomas
I'm pretty surprised with this. For it's price the sound is not terrible. While you don't get as much as the clean bass sounds you get from a decent bass amp, you can still clearly hear it. Has a couple of fun effects on it. I've charged it once since receiving it about a month ago. I don't use it daily, since I use my main amp for the most part. But I can't practice in my main room, I just take my bass and this thing anywhere to get some practice in. I suggest getting some decent headphones as well. you still get some grainy sound with them, but you can pick up the lows good enough to know what you're playing. The aux input was a nice surprise. Hook it up to your phone for a metronome or drum loop and get a good playing experience.
Susan Wheeler
It has a humming sound.
Barrie Lynes
Love this. I can practice with out waking the little one. Reminds me of the old Ibanez cassette deck. With the right head phones this thing rocks.
Charlie Preston
Mostly like. The only thing I don’t like is it doesn’t work in both ears of my earphones.
Julie Napier
So after using it for about 2 hours? so far with playing along with my phone attached to the aux on my music man short scale passive pickups, it is pretty awesome i gotta say. Better than using the aux in my amp and doing the same thing. The only problem is, if it is a problem, is the volume doesn't control the aux input and getting it just right so you don't drown out the play track is something to work on. The wah effect on it is pretty cool, nothing extraordinary but for something like this? for the price? well worth goofing around on. I strongly recommend this if you don't want to plug things into amp and deal with those logistics and just want to play somewhere by yourself with minimal gear. The only downside is I won't be able to play this on a bass that has it's input jack set inside a bit on the body, or have knobs too close to the jack, or on side where strap could hit the amp. The jack doesn't swivel and the aux and headphone inputs are on top and side that sometimes got in way of playing. I haven't tried to see if the usb cable\port can be used to lay tracks on a computer. I also haven't used this on my more powerful music man bongo so I may update later.

Super easy to use and sounds pretty good. I use it for Bass, simply plug into my phone plug in headphones and off you go.
Richard Bray
Teaching myself bass. This amp is great for keeping my practice to myself.
Angela Presley
The product arrived as described, works like it should and does exactly what I needed it to do.

The unit didn’t fit my Ibanez SR300EB, but it’s the fault of this specific bass guitar’s shape. The problem can be solved by using a 1/4 extension cable, but to me the whole point of having a pocket amp was to be mobile, so I used a short 1/4 splitter :). There is some hiss that becomes louder when you crank up the tone. Interestingly though the hiss almost completely disappears once you turn on the auto-wah effect. Now to the thing that surprised me most abou this unit is that it had a good clean tone when I tried it on my electric guitar. Even the auto-wah works well on an electric guitar. Took one star off because of the hiss.
Wendy Sergeant
This device functions perfectly for private practice over backing tracks. My only complaint is there is a background hiss when there is no input. I don't notice it when I'm playing so no harm done. You're not going to get cabinet quality tone from this thing. But I am very satisfied for the price.
Karen Cakebread
This headphone amp is perfect for practicing on your bass guitar anywhere at any time. The aux input is perfect for connecting it to your phone or any other music source to play along with songs. The sound quality is pretty good, but that is also based on the quality of the headphones that you use. Perfect practice amp if you live in an apartment and you don't want to disturb others.

This was a replacement for the Vox bass headphone amplifier I bought several years ago. I was in a Dionysian drunken stupor when I stood up and busted the headphone jack off of the Vox adapter and couldn't fix it. The Donner works very well. I don't actually use it with headphones. I use it as a high level output to a Klipsch subwoofer which will knock the fillings out of your teeth at full volume and with the low E string bass notes. I highly recommend this practice amp. It is minus the irritating metronome drum feature. It just does what it's supposed to.
Peter Thompson
Use daily with headphones and iPhone. Easy way to practice without disturbing others.
Cathryn Haugh
Used for late night practice Very useful
Samuel Broche
works fine but the quality of sound is poor
Craig Bywater
Works good when you don't want to bother others while you practice good sound only downfall is the cord to headphones gets in the way from time to time

A great little box of fun, plug it in and put in your ear phones and pluck away, big bonus is you get a great sound with out annoying those around you,

Bought one for a guy at church who wants to learn to play bass. Thought it was great. Bought another for myself. Absolutely love it. Only negative is that the min-jack to mini-jack cable supplied is faulty. So I've had to use another. I have an Ibanez SR370E, it's pretty tight inserting the unit into the bass. I'll probably buy a six inch cable or something to help. Otherwise the unit is brilliant. I tried buying something else - a Valeton Rushead Max - but though it costs way more, it isn't a patch on the Donner unit.

I'm real happy with the Donner Bass/Guitar Headphone Amp I purchased from you. As far as price is concerned, I can't imagine a better value--and on top of it all--it works as advertised! (A rare thing indeed!)
Given its virtues and limitations, I was surprised by how "noise free" it is (esp. within a plastic box 2/3 the size of a pack of cigarettes). I expected the sound quality to be much worse. Of course, this is not the case with everything you hook up to it. When connected to my Stereo CD/MP3 device, as well as my laptop, the sound is surprisingly clean.
Naturally, the volume and tone range is fairly limited. One has to spend time to "equalise" the volume and tone with whatever track source and device is inputted. When I connected it to a friend's CD/MP3, I got a bit of interference and was unable to raise the volume sufficiently--even when maxed out on the bass guitar in/output--to hear myself over the recorded track...
But this may be the particular setup we were playing with, rather than a glaring weakness of the product itself. I haven't had this problem with my own personal set up at home... so, I keep my fingers crossed that it's not the inherent limitations of the Donner device. For the device's primary purpose--to practice in silence at home while everyone's asleep--it's not an issue.
In any case, if an improvement needs to be made to the design in the next generation of product, it would have to be in widening the volume and tone range so that when playing to different recordings (each mastered differently) the guitarist has the wherewithal to make the volume changes needed to hear himself.
Currently, the bass or guitar player has only a limited ability to manually control the volume and tone variables through the device itself, so that enough output to the earphones and the most adequate mix is achieved (without an external mixer!).
Thanks for the very useful earphone amp and for your prompt delivery.
Cheers, -Richard-

This little headphone amp kicks butt! Just as good for almost half the price, that's no BS. It stays charged forever it seems like, sounds very clear with good volume and tone. You can hear every little detail, even your fingers moving on the strings. There's no delay, and the auxiliary input is great for playalongs. Volume, tone, and drive can all be adjusted in combination with the guitar knobs. The wah effect is pretty fun too. Highly recommend to anyone who plays bass guitar and wants to do so quietly. Donner is a great company, I own one of their bass guitars, a violin, and an electronic drum kit and they're all superior instruments in their price points.

Awesome little amp! I researched quite a bit as money is a bit tight right now, and it was between this one and another one twice as much that wasn’t rechargeable... I’m glad I got this one, it sounds great, does what I want it to do and doesn’t annoy the dog or neighbors lol. Not having to dig in the drawer for batteries is a win as well. It was charged out of the box, been playing it since I opened it up. No, it doesn’t have a external speaker (I’ve seen the question asked during my research,) but it’s not supposed to, hence why it’s called a headphone amp ;-) Mine at least doesn’t have a hiss like I kept reading the competitor had... Get it, you won’t be disappointed.

It's not super loud but it also depends on the headphones you use. More sound isolating headphones are probably best. Found it to have a lot of high-end in it. But if you have EQ on your bass it's not a problem. The little auxiliary cord hook up a device to is no good. Any little movement it's crackling.. but for the price compared to the other ones I cannot complain. The auto wah is not very functionable volume drops way down when it's on, but works. But was not a real factor on why I purchased it.

I like it. I noticed that another reviewer mentioned the volume not being loud enough, but it was plenty for me. I think this is subject to what type of headphones one might use. I use it with Sony earbuds. The tone is that of a mildly over-driven amplifier, and I was able to also get a relatively clean sound with the drive down and the volume up. The FX feature is a little unusual; it's a set-tempo auto wah sound that I'm not really fond of, but it's an option I wasn't interested in anyway. Donner includes a headphone splitter, aux cord, and mini-USB charge cord (good thing, as this is the less modern type, and I didn't still have one lingering around from any old flip-phones.;-P)
I ran my iPhone into the aux, plugged into my "partscaster", and used Sony earbuds (with mic - no consequence), and everything worked as it should, with a bit of noticeable hiss... but it was quickly masked by the music and the sound of my guitar.
Hope this review helps, rock on!

I'm headed out on a road trip and three days before leaving figured it would be best to look into getting one of these than lugging my Amp or Interface. The idea of taking a break along the road from CA or OR and practicing, let along practicing each day while away is highly appealing. It makes my Bass as convenient as an acoustic guitar. So, this one was in stock and had great reviews.
It arrived charged up and included the USB charger cable, Aux cable and even a Splitter Headphone Audio Adapter which is a complete bonus. The setup is quick and easy and a great way to practice while listening to tracks. I'll use my iPhone mostly but I took the photo with that so am showing it with the iPad. It's a pretty simply and clean sound as as I'm using it for practice that's just perfect. At this stage I haven't played around with the tone, drive, and effects but I'm 100% happy with this little $20 gem doing all I need it to do. The volume is enough; I would love more, but it's enough, and I'd definitely recommend this to anyone looking!
